I know it may seem like sometimes I get all fancy up in here. But I promise you I know what it is like to struggle. One of my first Christmases I spent with my husband was so tight that our only decoration was a one foot plastic Christmas tree and Christmas dinner consisted of eating canned Spaghettios. It was rough.
So if you are struggling, you can still find ways to stay keto.
Proteins:
Fresh meat can definitely be difficult to buy when struggling. Go for these lower priced items that are still very low or zero carb. Look at your labels when it comes to canned products because they can contain sneaky hidden fillers that have tons of carbs.
Proteins
- Hot dogs
- Bologna
- Vienna Sausages (only 4 carbs per can)
- Spam
- Canned Tuna (mix with mayo to get your fats up)
- Sardines (these are actually very good for keto: high in omega 3 and healthy fats)
- Eggs
Dairy
- American cheese (white or yellow)
- String cheese
Veggies
Look for canned veggies like spinach and green beans. They still contain much of their nutritional value. Get the generic version to save even more. Frozen is another option. Also, canned and frozen are not perishable so you don’t have to worry about waste.
